Welcome to the Ministry of
Spanish Radio & TV Mission
This Christian ministry is dedicated to the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Spanish-speaking world through the use of radio and television programming and the development of other Christian educational materials through new and emerging formats and multimedia.
Purpose of Our Mission
The purpose of our mission is to declare the message of salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ as is taught in the Bible. We will teach mainly in the Spanish language from the written word of God, using mass media and other electronic technologies. Program and content development shall be primarily for use by radio and television broadcasting in the Spanish-speaking regions of the world. Other non-broadcast use shall take the form of materials for Christian education in various formats, including audio and video for home, church or classroom use. Our prayer and financial support stems mostly from the faithful commitments of individuals and churches throughout the United States.
Our History
Spanish Radio & TV Mission was co-founded by Pastors Dr. Alberto Ruíz and José Gándara in 1989. The ministry is headquartered in Orlando, Florida where it’s registered and incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation. We’re staffed by a small group of lay producers and editors and other Christian leaders under the leadership of our Director General and Board of Directors. We eagerly anticipate your participation as a member of our Advisory Board.
An Argentine pastor contacted Pastor Gándara in 1988 in order to acquire the necessary technology to operate an FM station. At the time, Pastor José Gándara worked for Family Radio as a broadcast engineer.
The following year the same Argentine pastor approached Pastor José for help in programming and this marked the beginning of Spanish Radio Mission in 1989 with the program “Conociendo la Verdad” (Knowing Truth). “TV” was added to the name in 1992 when our first video production, “Exito Matrimonial” (Marriage Success) with Dr. Juan Miguel Sclafani was produced for Latin American television stations.
All programs were distributed free of charge to the broadcast stations that were in need for quality Christian productions.
Given the demand for quality Christian programs, air time was also made available to us in many occasions for a cost or free by the broadcasters.
The use of shortwave has been in decline in the years since the ministry’s founding, however, for over 2 years SRTVM broadcasted to Latin America by Radio Miami International and other high-power AM stations around the Caribbean.
Now, the ministry is using very effectively new and emerging media to help spread the seed of the Gospel. We are working with Cuban nationals to bring the Gospel and educational Christian material to Cuba. We are introducing CDs, DVD’s, books and Bibles into the island in a monthly basic. This has led to multiple contacts in various regions of the country that have been followed up by outreaches to new areas of ministry.
One such new area of ministry is helping prison’s chaplains in various Central American countries. Working directly with them, we have been providing correspondence courses and (wherever it’s allowed) CD and cassette recordings. Book narration for the blind and the illiterate has become another effective non-broadcast tool for spreading the Gospel through Christian books in audio.
Furthermore, as CD replication technologies had become more economically viable, we have begun to spread the Gospel with narrated the New Testament, other portions of the Bible, sermons and other Christian conferences.
All of these are distributed free of charge to Latin American ministries who in turn use it in their respective ministries, thus helping to advance the national missionary movement in Latin America. This is possible for your love offering.
Future avenues for ministry have concentrated mostly on reaching the Spanish-speaking populations in the United States. We have made strategic alliances with several other ministries and churches in order to produce their audio-book versions as well as translate and dub educational Christian videos.
Please prayerfully consider how you can help the ministry of SRTVM. Despite the Mission’s worldwide outreach, it still continues to be a small and intimate group of individuals working on a volunteer basis. Service opportunities abound, please share with us what burden the Lord is placing in your heart for Latinos all over the world.
